Fredericksburg has completed the first stage of its Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Project, launching a new era in the cityâs water management.
On September 23, officials celebrated the installation of nearly 8,800 smart water meters at homes and businesses.
This $4.5 million upgrade means water use is now monitored digitally rather than through manual meter readings, which once required staff to check about 3,700 meters by hand.
With smart meters sending data multiple times daily via secure cellular networks, billing is more accurate and leak detection faster, potentially saving the city an estimated $150,000 a year in labor.
Mayor Kerry Devine emphasized that the project enhances service and efficiency for residents.
Partnerships with Badger Meter and Concord Utility Services ensured installations finished early and below budget, most taking just 30 minutes per property.
Next year, Phase 2 will debut the âEye on Waterâ app, letting customers track their water use and catch leaks sooner. Read More... |
